CHICAGO (AP) — A storm that could drop as much as nine inches of snow was expected to hit northern Illinois this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will likely start falling on Saturday afternoon before the snow will fall at a rate of more than one inch an hour Saturday night until about midnight. And importantly for those who are getting ready to shovel, the snow that’s anticipated is the heavy and wet snow that is often called “heart attack snow” because of how physically taxing it can be to shovel it.

And the weather service said that the winter storm warning that is set to go into effect at 3 p.m. Saturday, will run through 6 p.m. Sunday in northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin and northwest Indiana.

The weather service is also warning those who need to drive somewhere to be careful, as the snow along with strong winds will add up to low visibility.

“Travel could be dangerous due to the heavy wet snow and strong winds causing very low visibility and snow-packed roads” with “power outages possible,” according to the weather service.

The storm comes just days after another storm dropped six inches of snow in the Chicago area.
