(NewsNation) — The soldier fatally shot at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia on Monday has been identified as Sgt. Nathan Hillman of Plum, Pennsylvania.

The Third Infantry Division said Sgt. Hillman was a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) specialist assigned to the Spartan Brigade.

Investigators rushed to Fort Stewart’s Second Armored Brigade Combat Team complex, about an hour outside of Savannah, just before 10 a.m. Monday in response to reports of a possible shooting. Once on the scene, emergency services were dispatched to treat Hillman, who died in the shooting.

Fort Stewart law enforcement took a suspect into custody on the scene and transferred the suspect to the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division. The events leading up to the shooting and a potential motive have not been shared with the public at this time. The Second Brigade complex was briefly placed on lockdown during the incident.

While the investigation is ongoing, Fort Stewart representatives say there is no active threat to the community linked to the shooting.

NewsNation affiliate WSAV reported that Hillman initially joined the Army in 2015, had one deployment in Afghanistan and had earned the Air Assault Badge.

“On Monday morning, the Spartan Family lost one of our own in a tragic and unexpected way,” Col. Ethan J. Diven, commander of the Spartan Brigade, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, told WSAV. “With deepest sorrow, our hearts are with the families and units involved in the incident. Providing support to the impacted families and soldiers is our first priority. We are working closely with the Fort Stewart military police and U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.”

The Winn Army Community Hospital is making behavioral health counseling available in response to the shooting.
