(NewsNation) — The body of a missing 25-year-old doctoral student at Northwestern University was found in a Chicago harbor Tuesday, according to officials.

A man pulled from Diversey Harbor on the northern side of the city Tuesday afternoon was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Peter Salvino, NewsNation affiliate WGN reported.

Salvino was last seen around 12:15 a.m. Sunday around the 800 block of West Lill Avenue in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, according to a news release from Northwestern.

Local reports say Salvino talked to a friend on the phone while walking home just after midnight. When his friend called back to check on Salvino, though, there was no answer.

WGN reported that Salvino was supposed to meet his father for a Bears game Sunday, but family members were unable to find him.

“He’s an incredible guy,” Salvino’s brother-in-law Scotty Gruzska said earlier Tuesday on “NewsNation Live.” “He’s like a lot of us, he’s an unfortunate Bears and White Sox fan, we suffer through that together.”

The family had been working to get records from Apple, Google and T-Mobile to try and locate Salvino, whose phone was last pinged near Diversey Harbor, according to WGN.

“From what we’ve heard from friends … he had just finished up a hard part of his schedule, and he was just looking forward to a relaxing couple of weeks around the holidays,” Gruzska said. “We have no reason to believe that he would just go off the grid.”

Salvino, according to Northwestern, was a Ph.D. candidate in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience program.
