(NewsNation) — Two people were shot after a fight broke out at a Sikh worship site in Sacramento County, California.

The shooting is not related to a hate crime and the three men involved in the altercation all knew each other, according to Sacramento Sheriff’s office spokesperson Amar Gandhi. The office also identified all three men as being East Indian.

Around 2:30 p.m. a fight broke out between men on the grounds of Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society during an ongoing festival, Gandhi said.

The people involved in the altercation were young adult males. One suspect shot the friend of another suspect. The second suspect then shot the original shooter and ran off.

Deputies found both males with gunshot wounds and transported them to the hospital. The sheriff’s office reported both of the victims are expected to survive their injuries.

On Monday morning, the sheriff’s office identified one of the alleged shooters as 21-year-old Karman Sandhu, as reported by NewsNation affiliate KTLA.

Sandhu isn’t eligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon. He is facing attempted murder charges, according to jail records obtained by KTLA.

The Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society was hosting festivities on Sunday for thousands of people. A parade was planned for 10 a.m. and celebrations were scheduled to continue at 5 p.m., according to an Instagram post.
