(NewsNation) — FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed the existence of a document alleging then-Vice President Joe Biden engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., claimed.

However, Comer said in a statement that Wray has still not committed to producing the documents sought by Comer, which have been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee.

“While Director Wray — after a month of refusing to even acknowledge that the form existed — has offered to allow us to see the documents in person at FBI headquarters. We have been clear that anything short of producing these documents to the House Oversight Committee is not in compliance with the subpoena,” Comer wrote. “If the FBI fails to hand over the FD-1023 form as required by the subpoena, the House Oversight Committee will begin Contempt of Congress proceedings.”

An FD-1023 form is used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting from a confidential human source.

Wednesday was the deadline for the agency to turn over the materials.

During a Wednesday interview on “The Hill on NewsNation,” Comer said Wray confirmed the existence of the document in a phone call that also included Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

“(Wray) implied that he was not going to give it to us,” Comer said.

The Kentucky Republican said if Wray doesn’t comply with the subpoena, the committee would pursue contempt charges that could end in jail time.

“This is not a classified document. This isn’t something that should be very difficult to produce,” Comer said.

The FBI said in a statement it offered to let Comer and the committee’s ranking member view the “information responsive to the subpoena” in a “secure manner” that protects “the confidentiality and safety of sources and important investigative sensitives.”

“The FBI has continually demonstrated its commitment to working with the Committee to accommodate its request, from scheduling briefings and calls to now allowing the Chair to review information in person. The FBI remains committed to cooperating with the Committee in good faith,” the FBI said in the statement.

The House Oversight Committee has been probing the Biden family’s business dealings for months.

Earlier in May, the committee claimed it uncovered evidence indicative of the Biden family’s “influence peddling and financial deception,” warranting further investigation and legislative solutions.

The records revealed that the Biden family, their associates and their companies allegedly received more than $10 million from foreign companies — including companies from China and Romania — the memo said. The Biden family allegedly used their business associates to receive these funds.

The committee has accused President Joe Biden of lacking transparency regarding his family’s business dealings, claiming that bank records reveal the Biden family received millions of dollars from foreign sources.

However, the committee has not uncovered any evidence that directly links the president to any foreign business dealings.

“This fits a pattern that we’ve already disclosed to the American public,” Comer said of the most recent FBI document. “What we are concerned with is the fact that we don’t believe the FBI even knew this allegation existed because they get a lot of form 1023s.”

In a statement to NewsNation, White House spokesperson Ian Sams called Comer’s investigations “political stunts” intended to spread “thin innuendo and falsehoods to attack the President.”

“(Comer) has already admitted this isn’t about uncovering facts but about trying to hurt the President’s poll numbers, so the only question left is how long he will waste time, energy, and taxpayer dollars to support a fact-free politically-motivated goose chase simply to get media attention and the Fox News spotlight,” Sams said.
