(NewsNation) — One man is dead and two others are in custody after multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, surrounded a massive warehouse Saturday following an incident in Dayton, Ohio.
According to NewsNation affiliate WDTN, police gave the all-clear following an incident the news outlet was told was a fight that escalated into a shooting.
Authorities asked residents to shelter in place Saturday morning amid a heavy police presence.
According to WDTN, law enforcement on the scene were from multiple jurisdictions including the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Dayton Bomb Squad.
Every available law enforcement officer in the county was reportedly called to the scene because there was a lot of ground to cover to find one of the suspects involved. One was believed to have gone inside a massive warehouse.
There are multiple ways to get in and out of the warehouse and a lot of places the suspect could hide.
After sweeping the building several times, officials learned the suspect was not inside and was later arrested about 20 minutes away from the scene.
Officials are still working to determine if there’s any connection between the shooting and those who work inside the warehouse.
“This large warehouse has been converted into multi-use businesses,” said Major Christopher Malson, incident commander for the Dayton police department. “I don’t know at this time whether it’s related to a single business, or not.”
Officials have not released any names involved in the incident.
Dayton’s homicide unit is leading the investigation and local news outlets reported FBI agents were on the scene.
The WDTN news crew also reported hearing four to five large bangs in the area.
Dayton Police and Fire said in a social media post to avoid the 400 block of Linden Ave.
Another social media post asked residents that live in the area to “remain inside of your home.”
“I was on the second floor, looked out the window, thought there was something happening across the road, ran back and grabbed my camera,” said witness Brian Shaffer. “As I walked out that door, I was surrounded with guns pointed at me and escorted away. I did give them my keys to get into the secured doors and kind of gave them a rough layout of the building. It is a confusing building.”
