(NewsNation) — Police say at least seven people were injured in a shooting near a parade of Boston’s annual Caribbean festival on Saturday.

Police were called to reports of a shooting just before 8 a.m. in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.

Police Commissioner Michael Cox told reporters the victims were taken to local hospitals and their wounds were not life-threatening.

“This morning’s shooting is not related to the parade that occurred,” Cox added.

Cox said two people have been arrested and multiple weapons recovered since the incident.

Police say the shooting was not connected to the festival or parade and the festival has not been called off and is expected to continue.

City Council President Ed Flynn has urged organizers to call off the second parade of the day, which is set to happen at 1 p.m.

Mayor Michelle Wu said she was thankful to the city’s first responders, especially the police who had a strong presence in the neighborhood.

“Today, the rest of the day, is going to be a really wonderful celebration,” she said of the carnival. “You see not only our officers and partners out in full force, but community members, organizers, people from every generation coming out to celebrate.”
