(NewsNation) — Tommy Wayne Boyd, the inmate who escaped from custody while receiving treatment at a medical center in St. Louis, Missouri, has been taken into custody without incident, police said Thursday.
The St. Louis County Police Department said their Special Response Unit was following up on leads when they located Boyd and took him into custody.
This arrest was the culmination of local, state, and federal law enforcement efforts, authorities said in a press release announcing his capture.
Surveillance video showed Boyd, 45, leaving Mercy Hospital South on foot. He was serving a 30-year sentence for statutory sodomy, with the Missouri sex offender registry showing he was convicted for assaulting an 11-year-old.
Boyd was last seen by hospital staff at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday and was considered dangerous. It was not known if he was armed.
Police warned locals to be aware of their surroundings and call 911 or the St. Louis County Police Department if they see Boyd.
As a precaution, nearby Lindberg Schools increased security with a lockout and suggested parents consider driving their kids to school instead of having them walk or wait at a bus stop.
