Woman killed in Pawtucket shooting
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a woman was shot dead in Pawtucket Friday evening.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said officers rushed to Central Avenue near Kenyon Street following reports of shots fired.
Goncalves said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances of the shooting are unclear, but Goncalves said investigators believe the woman was returning home from work when she was shot.
“We’re just in the midst of the investigation and it’s still relatively early,” Goncalves said. “We’re just trying to gather all of the information that we can and get some justice for the family.”
Goncalves said this is the city’s first homicide of the year.
No one is in custody at this time.
