(NewsNation) — Five kidnapped American children stuck in Gaza are finally reunited with their mother after six months.

All of the kids returned safely to their home in Florida, greeted by friends at Tampa International Airport.

Their ordeal began back in October when five children, the youngest of whom was 4 and the eldest 11, went to visit their grandparents in Gaza. While they were there, the Israel-Hamas war broke out.

Another family member who didn’t have custody took the children to Egypt without any communication.

That’s when the international rescue organization Project Dynamo stepped in to help.

Bryan Stern, Project Dynamo’s founder, said on “NewsNation Now” that the organization is helping as the kids are recovering.

“They have a little bit of a road to go,” he told anchor Nichole Berlie. “They were getting bombed every day in Gaza for a couple of months, eating very poorly, there’s no water.”

Shortly after the war started, Israel sealed Gaza off from food, fuel and other supplies.

Stern added, “They were kidnapped, which is bad, in a humanitarian crisis going on in Gaza, which is also bad, in a war zone, which is bad.”

“They’ve had a very bad go of it,” Stern said, but “they’re on the road to recovery.”
