LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Uber announced Tuesday it would be implementing a surcharge on trips that start or end at Allegiant Stadium during the Super Bowl. The company also said 100% of that surcharge will go to drivers.

Given the number of people expected to attend Super Bowl LVIII, Uber riders are likely to see higher prices and longer wait times during peak demand times and after the game and other events are over. Uber expects thousands of ride requests after the game ends and anticipates surge pricing to account for the demand.

According to a release from Uber, on Super Bowl Sunday in 2023, drivers in Glendale, Arizona earned 33% more per hour compared to previous Sundays.

This year, in Las Vegas, Uber is adding a $10 surcharge on drop-offs at the Super Bowl’s designated dropoff zone on West Mesa Vista Ave from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on game day and a $25 surcharge on pickups from the designated pickup zone in the Delano Hotel parking garage from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The company said that 100% of those gameday surcharges at the stadium will go to drivers.

The company said it worked closely with organizers and casino operators to create designated pickup and dropoff points and road closures within the Uber app. Special signage and extra staff will be in place around the stadium and at the post-game pickup zone.

Uber also partnered with the Harry Reid International Airport in an attempt to minimize congestion and more efficiently connect riders and drivers by enabling rematch technology.

Using rematch, a driver who drops off a rider at the airport can immediately pick up a new passenger in the designated Uber area allowing one car to serve two trips without having to leave the airport.

Additionally, Uber Eats will have an immersive market experience at the Super Bowl Experience at the Mandalay Bay South Convention Center from Wednesday, Feb. 7 through Saturday, Feb. 10.

Visitors will walk through a Super Bowl-themed grocery store and use the Uber Eats app to place orders. The “Get Almost Almost Anything Shop” will be open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Lyft, another prominent rideshare company, recently told Nexstar’s KLAS in Las Vegas that it will not be implementing an additional charge or surcharge around the Strip or Allegiant Stadium for the big game.

The Taxicab Authority announced a surcharge from Feb. 9 through Feb. 12, with an additional $10 fee on every trip originating or terminating around the Strip Corridor which includes Allegiant Stadium.
