THE BRONX, N.Y. (WPIX) — A human leg was discovered on the tracks of a subway line in the Bronx on Saturday, officials with the New York City Police Department have confirmed.

The leg was found between the 167th and 170th Street stations, on the roadbed where the No. 4 train operates. Officers responded to the site around 1 p.m. after being alerted to the find, according to a spokesperson for the NYPD.

“The leg was removed and the investigation remains ongoing,” the NYPD wrote in a statement shared with NewsNation parent company Nexstar.

Sources told NewsNation affiliate WPIX that the appendage was first spotted by a train conductor who was doing a sweep the morning after a snowstorm dumped several inches of snow on parts of New York.

The conductor was able to stop the train before running over the leg, according to WPIX’s sources.

A representative for the NYPD did not disclose whether any victims or persons of interest had been identified in connection with the disembodied leg, but indicated the limb is currently in the custody of the NYC medical examiner’s office.
