JENNINGS, Mo. – A 14-year-old has died after being stabbed in Jennings, Missouri, Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 2400 block of Hord Avenue. School resource officers responded to the scene immediately and provided medical treatment for the stab wound.

The Jennings Middle School student was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

No suspects are in custody, and police say the act does not appear to be random in nature.

St. Louis County Police Department is handling the investigation.

“We’re going to work with the Jennings School District to ensure that the student body has the resources available to cope with this tragic event,” Capt. Roediger, St. Louis County Police commander of the Jennings precinct, said.

Some nearby residents said fights between students in the area are common.

“Stop the violence,” Angernette Thomas, Jennings resident, said. “We need more love.”

Anyone with information surrounding the incident is urged to call the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 or anonymously with CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
