(WJW) – Two large great white sharks, each more than 13 feet long, have been reported not far from one another off of Florida’s east coast.

The tracking system provided by the non-profit OCEARCH shows the adult sharks named “Bob”and “Breton” were pinged within one minute of one another near the Florida- Georgia line early on Tuesday, March 19. According to OCEARCH, a ping is reported whenever an animal’s tag breaks the surface of the water.

Breton, weighs more than 1,400 pounds. The OCEARCH tracker shows the shark pinged at 12:46 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

Slightly closer to land, Bob, who weighs more than 1,300 pounds, pinged at about 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

OCEARCH encourages “facts over fear.” The non-profit helps conduct research and provides education and outreach opportunities.

According to a recent social media post, the organization said, white sharks are ending their overwintering period and transitioning north for the summer.
