HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man and woman were arrested Monday morning after they were reportedly found entering a vacant home.

According to Hopkinsville police, officers received a call around 12:19 p.m. on Monday about a woman pointing a gun at her home on the 1200 block of East 7th Street. When authorities arrived, they discovered Renee Joynt, 41, who ran into an abandoned house at the other end of the same street.

As stated in the police report, Joynt was “squatting” in the abandoned home with Ellis Rouse, 62. The owner of the building was contacted, who confirmed that “no one should be at the home, and if they are, they are trespassing.” The pair were asked multiple times to leave by officers and refused.

According to court documents, Rouse turned over the weapon to police, and once recovered, officers realized it was a BB gun.

Authorities said shortly after obtaining a search warrant, Rouse walked outside and was arrested, while Joynt remained inside. The officers then had to deploy a K9 to remove Joynt from the residence.

Hopkinsville police cited that the abandoned home “had damage to the walls, and the floor was covered in pee and feces.”

Joynt and Ellis were charged with burglary, and Joynt faces an additional charge for resisting arrest. Both were lodged in the Christian County Jail.
