TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Taylor Swift is coming to the University of South Florida, sort of…”Are You Ready For It?”

The past two years have been unstoppable for the international pop star, following the release of her “Midnights” album in 2022, which took home the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Announcing her global “Eras Tour” launched the stars fandom to new heights, along with the budding relationship with Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Swift is all anyone can talk about.

In addition to her recent successes, Swift officially landed on Forbes’ billionaires list earlier this month, a rare feat for the singer, as she’s the “first musician to reach the milestone solely from songwriting and performing,” according to Forbes.

However, if you’re a fan of Swift or a “Swiftie,” you know that her list of accomplishments doesn’t stop there, and universities are starting to take note of the impact the “Cruel Summer” singer is bringing to the world and soon-to-be classroom.

As Swift continues to dominate the airwaves, colleges have begun to offer courses dissecting the singer’s business strategies, her cultural and economic impact, as well as her intricate songwriting.

Most recently, USF announced Monday they’ll join the growing list of Florida colleges offering a Swift course.

According to The Oracle, USF’s student newspaper, English professors Jessica Cook, Emily Jones, and Michelle Taylor will collaborate to teach three Swift-themed sections of LIT3301 this fall.

Students will gather twice a week throughout the course for discussions covering Swift’s impact on music and fan culture. Lectures will also be focused on comparing her to “literary influences,” including Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, and Lord Byron.

The university’s course inventory describes the class as “A study of American and international cultures as they are represented in the film, fiction, and other cultural artifacts of various ethnic groups and nationalities” and “focuses on values/ethics, race, ethnicity, and gender; thinking and writing skills.”

Students from any major are welcome to take the course as long as they have completed English Composition 1 and 2, The Oracle reported.

USF’s newest Swift class comes a year after the singer left Tampa “speechless” during her three sold-out shows at Raymond James Stadium and just a few days before the release of her newest and highly-anticipated album, “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT.”

The album, which drops on Friday, features a song titled “Florida!!!” featuring Florida + The Machine.

The University of Florida and the University of Miami in Coral Gables are among the other Sunshine State universities to use Swift’s music and impact for education purposes.

According to the Miami Herald, UM offered a strategic communication class called “Mastermind Taylor Swift Brand,” along with a seven-week intensive called “Intellectual Property Law Through the Lens of Taylor Swift” through its law school.

UF’s student-run newspaper, the Independent Florida Alligator, reported that the university offered a one-credit honors class, “Musical Storytelling with Taylor Swift and Other Iconic Female Artists,” this spring, which filled up within 10 seconds.
