(NewsNation) — A group of pro-Palestinian protesters remained peaceful Wednesday afternoon at Fordham University while nearby officers kept watch.

Fordham Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) organized an encampment at the university’s Lincoln Center, urging the school to divest from Israel, the university’s weekly journal, The Fordham Ram, reported.

Fordham established a partnership with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem last year as part of a study abroad program, the journal reported.

Officers with the New York Police Department were present Wednesday afternoon but appeared only to be keeping an eye on the protest, NewsNation correspondent Brooke Shafer reported from campus.

Students received an alert at 9:52 a.m. that said, “There are no disruptions to classes or operations,” The Fordham Observer reported.

College students across the country have been protesting and calling for their schools’ divestment from Israel for several weeks.

Police cleared 30 to 40 people from inside Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall late Tuesday and made dozens of arrests after pro-Palestinian protesters occupied the administration building earlier in the day.

Officers arrested 292 people — 173 at The City College of New York and 119 at Columbia — NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said during a news conference Wednesday.
