KANSAS CITY, Kan. — NASCAR rolls into the Sunflower State for the running of the AdventHealth 400 this weekend. Before the green flag drops, here are four things to know about Kansas Speedway.

Mind the State Line

As the name implies, the track is located in Kansas, not Missouri. Here’s a little knowledge that might win you a bar bet: There are two cities that go by “Kansas City,” one in Kansas, one in Missouri. The speedway in KCK, as locals call it, and downtown KCMO are about 17 miles apart.

Treacherous Turns

The tri-oval track is a mile-and-a-half with progressive banking in the turns. The bottom line runs 17 degrees and the top line runs 20 degrees. The top groove is the preferred line of late for drivers.

The turns are where things usually get dicey, and not just in turn two, which has a casino nestled behind it with a second story sports bar featuring tasty brews and a sweet views of the race.

Best Bets

If you’re betting on the race, throwing down some cash on Toyotas might help you beat the house. Toyotas have taken the checkered flag the past four cup races, and seven of the last nine.

If you play craps you know the 11 is called the “Yo.” The 11 car driver driver, Denny Hamlin, has certainly put the “Yo” in Toyota at Kansas. In his last nine starts, Hamlin has three wins, two second place finishes, and seven top 10’s.

A non-Toyota worth a wager: Number 5 Chevy of Kyle Larson. He has started and finished in the top 10 in each of the past five cup races at Kansas Speedway, including a trip to victory lane back in 2021.

BBQ Heaven

And lastly, when drivers get to Victory Lane at Kansas, expect a celebratory spray, a trophy, a haul of hats…. and a big ‘ol stack of BBQ ribs to the victor. What else would you expect in the BBQ capital of the world?
