Planters nut products recalled over possible listeria contamination
- Two products may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes
- Products: 'Honey Roasted Peanuts' and 'Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts'
- Hormel: Full investigation is underway to determine source of contamination
AUSTIN, Minn. (NewsNation) — Hormel Foods Sales, LLC is pulling two Planters products from shelves after potentially being contaminated with listeria monocytogenes at one of its facilities last month.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children or the elderly, weakening the immune system, according to a news release from the Food and Drug Administration.
The recall includes two products: 4-ounce packages of “Honey Roasted Peanuts” and 8.75-ounce cans of “Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts.”
The lots were shipped to Publix distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in Georgia and South Carolina, the report said.
There have been no reported illnesses concerning this recall, and all retailers have been notified.
“Our commitment to food safety remains our utmost priority. A full investigation is currently underway to determine the potential source of the contamination,” Hormel said in a statement.
