(NewsNation) — Former Miss America Cara Mund, now running for the U.S. House as a Republican in North Dakota, broke from her GOP rivals saying she will not “worship” former President Donald Trump if elected and will treat him like any other citizen under the law.

Mund, in a Saturday interview on “NewsNation Prime,” said Trump’s name was invoked more than 25 times by her four opponents in a debate, contrasting with her stance that no president or official is above the law.

The 28-year-old who was Miss America in 2018, is seeking to become the first woman from North Dakota elected to the U.S. House. She said that milestone would “open doors of opportunity for young women” in the state.

“As an attorney, I believe in law and order,” Mund said. “I believe that no one, including a former government official or the president, is above the law and that all laws apply equally.”

The Harvard Law graduate said that while she would have to work with Trump if he becomes president again, she is “the only candidate that is not bowing to Trump” and does not feel beholden to universally support him.

“I will not worship him,” Mund said. “I’m not representing Donald Trump. I’m representing the people of North Dakota.”

Mund suggested her opponents would simply follow Trump’s lead rather than exercise independent judgment.
