‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign celebrates anniversary
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a couples photo contest.
Clark County announced Monday that it is teaming up with YESCO, the 104-year-old sign company known for creating some of Las Vegas’s most iconic signs, to host a photo contest to commemorate the milestone.
So how can you enter? Any couple who has ever had their photo taken in front of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign can submit their photo through social media to have a chance to win their very own replica of the sign to “commemorate their love,” Clark County said in a post on the platform “X.”
In 1959, Betty Willis, one of the first female commercial artists to work on neon signs, designed the sign after she was approached by local businessman Ted Rogich, who thought the city needed its own sign to advertise itself, according to the LVCVA.
In May of that year, her designs were approved and the iconic landmark was built, making it a must-see for the millions of people that visit Las Vegas.
