(NewsNation) — The National Basketball Association has closed its investigation into Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey, months after police in California announced they ended their probe into allegations that surfaced online about an inappropriate relationship he had with an underage girl, ESPN is reporting.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski posted the news on X Thursday. NewsNation has contacted the NBA for comment.

Back in November, an anonymous social media user said a girl seen in pictures posted online with Giddey, a 21-year-old Australian, was a high school junior. That social media account has since been deactivated, and the posts were deleted. While the NBA started an investigation, Commissioner Adam Silver said in an appearance on ESPN that the league would take a “backseat” to the Newport Beach Police Department, which opened a probe as well.

The Newport Beach Police Department said in January it completed its investigation.

“Our detectives have reviewed all of the available information and were unable to corroborate any criminal activity related to Mr. Giddey,” Newport police said on X.

The attorney representing the girl, Gloria Allred, said to TMZ Sports that the ending of the police investigation did not surprise her client or her parents “since our client who is a minor and her parents have chosen not to speak to law enforcement to protect their privacy.”

Following this news, NBA spokesman Michael Bass said the league was continuing its own review of the matter, according to the Los Angeles Times, though Giddey continued to play for the Thunder, only missing one Dec. 23 game because of an ankle injury.

Giddey has not commented on the allegations.
