Fmr. Trump adviser: This is ‘first ever communist show trial’ in US
- Trump accused of falsifying business records to keep info from voters
- He was repeatedly fined for violating a gag order in the case
- Trump raises funds off of verdict
(NewsNation) — Stephen Miller, former White House senior policy adviser, slammed former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict.
“This is America’s first ever communist show trial,” Miller told NewsNation host Elizabeth Vargas on THursday. “We’ve never had anything like it before in American history, where every observer understood that it was politically based from the beginning, that the only reason Trump was on trial is because he was running against Biden.”
A jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony charges for falsifying business records in an effort to keep information from voters ahead of the 2016 election.
The jury, made up of seven men and five women, delivered the verdict after nearly 12 hours of deliberation. Sentencing is still to come, and Trump could face fines, probation or prison time. However, the verdict does not disqualify him from continuing to run for the presidency.
Trump quickly moved to raise funds off his guilty verdict, writing to supporters that he was the victim of an unfair trial and that he would win back the White House with their help. He also posted a video on Truth Social with audio that appears to be from a past rally in which he is speaking about the need to throw out the “sick, political class that hates our country.”
Trump plans to hold a news conference Friday at Trump Tower.
