(WJW) — One of America’s beloved icons has reportedly been hospitalized.
Oprah Winfrey’s BFF Gayle King announced on “CBS Mornings” that the reason the famed talk show host was not there for a scheduled appearance to announce her next book club pick was due to an illness.
“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends,” King explained during the broadcast. “I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV.”
King called the illness serious and said Winfrey had tried to be there Wednesday and that “it mattered to her,” but she needed more rest.
“She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail,” King said.
People magazine reached out to Winfrey’s team, who confirmed her health is improving.
“She is resting and feeling better every day,” the spokesperson said, although they did not say if she was still in the hospital or when the illness first struck.
Oprah recently announced that her latest book club pick is “Familiaris” by David Wroblewski.
