(NewsNation) — The Anti-Defamation League is updating its Campus Antisemitism Report Card for some of the nation’s top colleges and universities over their response and handling of pro-Palestinian protests on their campuses.

Northwestern University, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Michigan were all downgraded from a “D” grade to an “F” grade.

Additionally, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology: MIT, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received an “F” grade.

Shira Goodman, the ADL’s vice president of advocacy, told NewsNation that the biggest factors in these rankings were the type of incidents that come out of the protests.

“We watched what was happening on campuses — were there more incidents, violence, harassment, students not being able to get to class disruptions at events, and then how universities were responding,” she said.

Meanwhile, Standard University, Princeton University, and Swarthmore College improved above an “F” grade, while Wellesley College and the University of Illinois received “C” grades and the University of Central Florida received a “B” grade.

Brandeis University and Elon University were the only schools of the 85 examined that received an “A.”

“Some of these protests were less eventful than others. The protesters remained where they were supposed to be, they didn’t block access or impede access to classes or other events, and we didn’t necessarily downgrade,” Goodman said.

She added: “Some universities responded very promptly to say here’s our time, place and manner restrictions, here’s when and where you can protest, and they enforce those, and some of those schools went up.”

Overall, Goodman said they measured three main things: incident severity, recency and frequency.
