(NewsNation) — The man killed earlier this month when he was hit by a New York City Dept. of Transportation truck was a mid-level mobster, the New York Post reports.
Anthony Conigliaro, 86, was crossing a Brooklyn street on June 12 when the truck hit and decapitated him, police sources told the paper.
“He spent his life looking over his shoulder, but he forgot to look both ways before crossing the street,” one police source said.
Conigliaro was known as “Tony Cakes” because he ran a wholesale cake business in his later years. His link to the Genovese crime family became public in 2005 when prosecutors accused him of being a loan shark.
State records show Conigliaro agreed to a guilty plea on a racketeering conspiracy charge and received a 13-month sentence.
