(NewsNation) — Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker was caught on a hot mic saying there are concerns about President Joe Biden’s status as the presumptive Democratic nominee just days after he publicly pledged his support, according to an NBC News report.
“We’re just going to keep fighting. I don’t know what to say. We’re going to do what we have to do. I don’t like where we are,” Pritzker said.
The Illinois governor has repeatedly supported Biden’s presidential run, even after his debate performance against former President Donald Trump has caused some members of the Democratic Party to question whether Biden should be replaced on the ballot before November.
“Joe Biden is our nominee. I’m for Joe Biden. I’ve been campaigning for Joe Biden,” Pritzker said earlier this week.
There is no evidence Biden is willing to end his campaign, and it would be nearly impossible for Democrats to replace him unless he chooses to step aside.
Pritzker, 59, has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Biden if he withdraws from the race.
As speculation grows about potential replacements for Biden, Pritzker’s name continues to surface. With his progressive record, substantial resources and growing national profile, he is an option for Democrats looking to energize their base and challenge Republican opponents.
