(FOX40.COM) — Several fires have been ignited at Tahoe National Forest after 126 lightning strikes hit on Saturday, according to the U.S. Forest Service. It says it’s monitoring four fires started by lighting strikes:

• Crystal: The Crystal Fire is in the Truckee Ranger District and in patrol status.

• Palen: The Palen Fire is in the Sierraville Ranger District and burned about 3 acres. It is 50% contained.

• Sand: The Sand Fire is in the Truckee Ranger District and officials said the size is not available. Three Tahoe Helitack rappelers have been inserted, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

• Alpine: The Alpine Fire is in the Truckee Ranger District and has burned through 1/10 of an acre in the Granite Chief Wilderness behind Palisades Tahoe. U.S. Forest Service reported that three Tahoe Helitack rappelers have been inserted.

Officials said the Tahoe National Forest Air Attack 17 will be flying recon across the forest to look for additional new fire starts. The forest continues to maintain initial attack resources due to the Royal Fire. Forest Service fire resources are staged in Soda Springs, ready to respond.
