MILWAUKEE (NewsNation) — After being absent from the Republican National Convention, Melania Trump will be joined by Ivanka Trump on Thursday as those closest to former President Donald Trump continue to unite and rally behind him following Saturday’s assassination attempt.
The RNC’s theme has been unity, and nearly all of Trump’s family gathered in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. His oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and his granddaughter, Kai Trump, took the stage to voice their support.
Eric Trump: Melania and Ivanka ‘in full force’
Melania and Ivanka Trump have been absent, but Eric Trump says they’ll be “coming in full force” to the RNC on Thursday.
“They’re coming in,” Eric Trump said when asked by Tony Dokoupil on “CBS Mornings” about their presence at the GOP gathering in Milwaukee.
Neither Melania Trump nor Ivanka Trump are expected to give speeches.
Melania Trump has missed several key moments throughout this campaign, including the former president’s announcement of his 2024 run and the first presidential debate of this election.
In 2022, Ivanka Trump stated she did “not plan to be involved in politics” in the future, choosing to prioritize her young children and the private life she’s creating with her family.
How has the assassination attempt affected the Trump family?
The Trump family has emphasized that Saturday’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a watershed moment for the entire family.
Eric Trump credited “divine intervention” for saving his father’s life, noting that the incident has changed the way the former president views his role in this election.
“He realized he could have been dead,” he told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday night during the Republican National Convention. “Had he not moved his face one inch … you would have had a former president, very likely future president, get executed on TV.”
In response to the shooting, the former president shifted the main topic of his speech to focus more on unity and less on President Joe Biden. The family says the incident has resonated deeply with them, affecting their perspective firsthand.
