CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Investigators are still trying to solve a nearly 14-year-old cold case that unfolded after a man’s remains were found in the woods behind a Clarksville shopping center.

The discovery was made on July 20, 2010, off Terminal Road. Back then, the area bordering Wilma Rudolph Boulevard was home to a Kmart and a few other stores, but over time, businesses have closed, and new ones have taken over.

Officials were able to identify the remains as Steven Everett Davies, a Navy veteran who they later learned spent a lot of his time in the wooded area behind the old Kmart. According to Clarksville Police, Davies was homeless and mostly kept to himself.

He didn’t have any family in Tennessee, leaving detectives with many questions. However, in a previous interview with News 2, Kaye Jones with Montgomery County Crime Stoppers said that with Clarksville being a military city, they owe it “to a veteran to bring some justice to his life.”

Following an autopsy, the medical examiner’s office ruled his death as a homicide, but investigators have not said how Davies was killed. Initially, it was hoped that someone within the homeless community who stayed in the area might have some information about the case.

In 2017, officials put up billboards across Clarksville with photos of Davies, to no avail. Despite at least one anonymous tip coming in, police are still searching for his killer.

Even a full decade later, his case has continued to be featured among Crime Stoppers’ unsolved murders, with it being one of the cases that now qualifies for a $10,000 cash reward.

Anyone who has information on the death of Steven Davies is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 931-645-TIPS, or go to www.p3tips.com, and leave a tip online. All callers remain completely anonymous.
