EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An arrest has been made in an animal cruelty case after a dog was abandoned in a ditch and left to die in El Paso, the city announced in a press release Monday morning, July 22.
The city says Erika Trevino was arrested for an outstanding warrant related to cruelty to non-livestock on Monday, July 22.
The city says in August 2023, El Paso Animal Services Protection Officers and Detectives with the El Paso Police Animal Cruelty Unit investigated an abandonment case where a dog was “abandoned in a ditch, injured, and left to die.”
Trevino was identified as a suspect in this case as a result of the investigation, according to the city.
“In her new home, Eva found love and comfort. She is able to take long walks, enjoy playful romps in the lush green grass, and loves cozy cuddles with her new family. Eva is healing and thriving. She is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of compassion,” the City said.
The city says the cause is currently in litigation.
The community is asked to report any suspected cases of animal abuse or neglect by calling 311 or 911 for cruelty in progress.
