(NewsNation) — A terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York was briefly evacuated Wednesday due to an escalator fire according to officials.
An escalator in JFK’s Terminal 8 began showing smoke at about 7:15 Wednesday morning, a statement from the Port Authority of New Jersey and New York read.
Four people were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. Terminal operations resumed by 8:15 a.m. and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
A video posted on X showed smoke throughout the terminal as passengers evacuated.
Terminal 8 is used by Airlines including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas.
