MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The human remains found inside a burned vehicle at the police impound lot last week have been identified as 20-year-old Jaderius Webb.

This comes after human remains were found in the vehicle days after the car was towed to the Memphis Police Department impound lot.

Police said Wednesday that neither fire department personnel nor police could clearly see the charred remains in the car.

On July 20, first responders made the scene of a vehicle fire at Weaver Road and Tully Road in Southwest Memphis. When the fire was out, MPD investigators took photos and completed a police report, and then the car was taken to the city impound lot at 465 Kline Lane.

That same morning, just hours later, the family of 20-year-old Jaderius Webb filed a missing person report with the Horn Lake Police Department.

Webb’s father said for the last few days he’s been doing his own investigation to get answers about where his son could be. When he went to the scene where the car was on fire, he says he found his work boots and a gas can left behind.

He also said he called the impound lot and someone there told him that the vehicles “go through checks” and that nothing was in the car.

On July 22, an MPD officer examined the burned vehicle closer. At that time, the charred remains of a body were discovered in the rear passenger area of the car.

Memphis Police are now calling the case a homicide.
