(NEXSTAR) – Overlooking the beaches of Normandy sits the historic Chateau de Bellefontaine. The popular hotel has a rich history dating back to the 15th century.
Corentin Lechevallier with the Chateau de Bellefontaine said the hotel was occupied by Germans for a period of time during World War II. It was liberated by the Allied forces after the D-Day invasion.
“It was, of course, a base for all the wounded and everything,” Lechevallier said.
Today, the hotel is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful grounds, located just 10 kilometers from the Normandy beaches. While the hotel has undergone many renovations over the years, much of the fireplace is the original metal.
“The main chimney, the sort of main core, is really like from the 15th century,” Lechevallier said.
The Chateau de Bellefontaine is about a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Paris.
