Driver accused of shooting at car with ex and his baby inside
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after police say he shot at the mother of his child along Highway 385 in Memphis while their baby was in her back seat.
The mother and four-month-old were not hurt, but police say the bullet shattered the driver’s side window.
The suspect, identified as Gregory Poindexter, 28, was booked into the Shelby County jail Tuesday. He was also wanted for a shooting involving a repo man last month at a Hickory Hill apartment complex.
The victim in that incident claimed that Poindexter was attempting to prevent him from repossessing a vehicle and fired shots at him as he was driving away.
The mother of Poindexter’s daughter told police last Thursday she was driving along 385 near the Ridgeway exit when Poindexter pulled up beside her, yelled that he wanted to see his daughter, pointed a gun at her, and opened fire.
According to police, the victim said Poindexter had physically abused her several times in the past and threatened to kill her if she got him arrested.
Poindexter is also charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, and employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony.
He is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
