EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Three men are dead, and one remains in critical condition after armed individuals opened fire inside a south Juarez, Mexico, grocery store late Wednesday.
The shooting took place at 10:22 p.m. at Abarrotes Liz, a grocery store at the edge of a working-class neighborhood a few blocks from the busy Calle Lote Bravo. Police officers at the scene told local news media one victim was shot while trying to exit the cinder-block structure and another was chased for two blocks and gunned down.
No suspects are in custody and a motive is pending. Juarez police told Border Report news partners ProVideo witnesses saw two men carrying handguns leaving the scene.
According to the Mexico City nonprofit Causa en Comun (Common Cause), Mexico recorded 187 multiple murders – defined as the premeditated killing of three or more people – during the first six months of 2024.
Forty of those took place in places like Chihuahua, Sonora and Baja California, which border the United States and are plagued with drug activity, according to law enforcement experts.
