(NewsNation) — General Motors is laying off over 1,000 salaried employees globally in its software and services division, according to CNBC

The layoffs, which include roughly 600 jobs at the company’s tech campus near Detroit, come less than six months after leadership changes, including former Apple executive Mike Abbott leaving General Motors.

The company confirmed the layoffs in a statement but did not disclose the number of layoffs that would take place. Affected employees were notified Monday morning.

If the number of layoffs is 1,000, that will mean 1.3% of the company’s global salaried workforce of 76,000 people are losing their jobs.

A company spokesperson said in an emailed statement that the layoffs are a result of prioritizing investments that will have “the greatest impact.”
