(NewsNation) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear isn’t eyeing a White House Cabinet position, he suggested Tuesday.

“I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” he told reporters at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “I love being governor of Kentucky. I’ve got 3 1/2 years left to do my best.”

He went on to tout the state’s recovery efforts since the 2022 eastern Kentucky flood that killed 40 people and damaged 300 homes.

Beshear was among those rumored as a possible running mate to Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. He endorsed Harris for the role after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race but when pressed on the matter, Beshear said again that he plans to serve a second term as governor.

Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

Beshear has remained a vocal advocate for Harris, saying Tuesday that he has faith her stances on divisive issues such as the border can win over independent voters.

“Yes we need strong borders and border security is national security, but we’re still talking about human beings,” he said.

Beshear’s comments come on the second day of the DNC, where former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are expected to address the audience. Harris’ nomination became official after a virtual roll call earlier this month.
