Las Vegas shooting captured on video shows heated exchange
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – In less than two minutes a heated argument between two Las Vegas neighbors turned deadly following a shooting in a Summerlin community.
The video evidence and court documents add new doubts about the shooter’s motivations.
Around 7 p.m. on May 13 the Moreno family’s white van pulled into their driveway near the 2200 block of Starline Meadow Place near Lake Mead Boulevard and Hillpointe Road.
Their neighbor, Joe Moreno, 47, shouted at the car while he rolled his trash can from the curb, according to video evidence obtained by 8 News Now.
Joe Moreno had no immediate relation to the Moreno family next door, according to both families.
Eddi Moreno, 32, stopped the van in the family’s driveway, exited the vehicle with a handgun in his right hand, and began to yell back at Joe. Both men stood on their properties with a sideyard between them, shouting at each other.
“You’re about to get f—— up right now,” Eddi said. “I don’t give a f— I am about to murder you, come right here. I am going to murder you for that.”
“Who are you going to murder,” Joe said.
“You,” Eddi said in response.
The two men exchanged words for a few seconds before Eddi’s spouse, Reina Moreno, got out of the white van and called 911 from her phone, according to the video.
“I need police here right now,” Reina said. “Because this guy that just moved in next door is over here tweaking out and yelling at my husband.”
Reina told the 911 operator she believed Joe was “grabbing his d—” before the call ended with the sound of Eddi allegedly shooting their neighbor.
Joe lay in his driveway yelling after being shot while Eddi stood in his driveway and Reina moved their van into the open garage.
Reina called a second time to the 911 operator describing what she believed led to Joe being shot and why she believed her husband allegedly shot him.
Eddi allegedly told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police detectives Joe was standing on Eddi’s property and charged at him during the exchange. However, police detectives and video evidence dispute Eddi’s claims and confirm Joe stood on a rock on his side of the property and did not charge at his neighbor before being fatally shot.
Police detectives did not dispute Joe showed his genitals in the direction of Eddi, Reina, and their children while in their driveway.
According to court documents obtained by 8 News Now Reina said she did not see Joe’s actual genitals, but he had grabbed his groin area before being shot
8 News Now has since learned Eddi faced three separate battery charges in 2024 alone: one in April for assaulting a landscaper in his neighborhood and two more for punching a man during a children’s soccer game in January. He now faces an open murder charge for the May shooting and bailed out of jail in May.
