Harris, Trump are welcome on NewsNation: Chris Cuomo
- On the floor of the convention, Cuomo makes the offer
- One hour for Harris, one hour for Trump to make their cases
- Doesn’t expect response, says candidates stick to 'home team'
(NewsNation) — NewsNation host Chris Cuomo is extending an invitation to the two major presidential candidates to appear on NewsNation for one hour each. But he doubts he’ll have any takers.
“We’d give her (Harris) an hour to make her case to the American people. She won’t take it. I would offer Trump an hour to make the case to the American people. He won’t take it. Why? Because you stick to your home team, and you stick to friendly outposts. And you’d rather use commercials than deal with somebody like me. That’s part of the problem.”
Cuomo made the offer as he interviewed Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., who said he expects that Harris will talk to reporters soon.
“After the convention, you’ll see that there will be more interviews, and working, and sitting down and talking to … talk about what her policies are and what she’s looking to do to push the country forward,” Meeks told Cuomo.
Earlier, Cuomo blasted both the Democratic and Republican tax reform proposals.
“We are strangled by the money reality in our politics,” he said, referring to those in the corporate suites of the United Center. “Those suites start at 500 grand. You think there’s a teachers’ group up in there? You think it’s like the Cub Scouts?
“Those boxes are filled with the same people they (the parties) say they’re going to regulate. They are literally looking down on the faithful,” he said.
