MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Police are investigating a Lower Manhattan NYCHA complex mystery.

They are looking for the person who allegedly threw a dog down a trash chute and left him trapped.

“I am about to cry,” said Cicely, holding back her tears as she looked at this picture of a dog whose life had to be ended after mercilessly getting tossed down the garbage chute of her high-rise building in Lower Manhattan.

“They need to find out who did it. If they lock these doors downstairs, these things won’t happen, and they won’t lock the shuts,” she added.

A source close to the devastating discovery told NewsNation affiliate WPIX the animal was agonizing in pain and had all four legs broken, adding it had matted fur and looked in very bad shape.

Police said the injured dog was found Friday morning in the compactor of building 180 at the Governor Alfred E. Smith NYCHA complex on South Street. Residents claim they had not seen the pup before but want whoever committed this heartless crime behind bars.

The dog was taken to an ASPCA facility on East 92nd Street.

The organization told WPIX in a statement:

“This dog, an alleged victim of cruelty, was humanly euthanized to end existing and ongoing pain.”

It is unclear how long the animal was in the compactor before being found.
