(KTLA) — Armie Hammer is selling his beloved truck due to rising gas prices.
The actor revealed that after returning to Los Angeles, the prices at the pump are prompting him to downsize.
In a video posted to Instagram, the “Call Me by Your Name” actor revealed he was selling his 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali pickup, which he bought for himself as a Christmas present that same year. Standing in front of a CarMax, Hammer gave his followers a final look at the vehicle before he put it up for sale.
“I have loved this truck intensely and taken it camping and across the country multiple times and on long road trips, and I took it for one last road trip to CarMax,” he explained fondly.
He insisted the video was not a promotion for the vehicle retailer.
“I’m selling my truck. Since being back in LA, I have put about $400 or $500 worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore,” he said.
Hammer explained how the truck brought his kids home from the hospital after they were born and how it was present during many “amazing trips.”
In the meantime, “The Social Network” actor has purchased a new vehicle.
“It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably going to put about $10 of gas in it a month,” he said.
He then panned his camera to show all of the items still left in his truck that he had to remove before leaving it behind. He explained that the move is to start fresh for his birthday, which was Wednesday.
“I will be starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles.”
He then looked down and thanked his truck for getting him a long way.
“I appreciate it all. I hope you take as good of care of the next person.”
Hammer’s recent return to LA comes three years after he was accused of cannibalism and sexual assault.
In 2021, multiple women claimed the actor shared violent sexual fantasies with them through messages on social media — some of which contained cannibalism references.
Hammer called the allegations “bulls**t” at the time, Entertainment Tonight reported.
The same year, another woman came forward, accusing Hammer of violent sexual assault for more than four hours in 2017. She said she tried to get away, but she “thought that he was going to kill me.” Two years later, Los Angeles County prosecutors said he would not face criminal charges in the case.
Following the allegations, Hammer was dropped by his talent agency and left two big projects.
The accusations became the topic of the Discovery+ docuseries “House of Hammer.”
In a recent interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Hammer talked about the allegations and denied he had ever “eaten any human flesh” but admitted to “a very intense affair,” which led to his 2023 divorce from Elizabeth Chambers.
He also did interviews on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast and Tom Arnold’s “Painful Lessons” show.
In June, People magazine reported that Hammer “was working to get his life back on track. “
“He wants to prove himself and win back credibility by clawing his way back into Hollywood,” a source told the outlet. “He doesn’t want to be seen as taking favors.”
