NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Vanderbilt University is auctioning off pieces of the goalpost that was torn down by fans after the team’s historic win against the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide.

Saturday night, the Vanderbilt Commodores pulled off their first victory against the top-ranked team with a final score of 40-35.

Vandy fans took to the field, climbing onto the goal post and bringing it to the ground. Hundreds of fans took the disconnected post and carried it for miles through downtown Nashville before dumping it in the Cumberland River.

On Sunday, the SEC fined Vanderbilt $100,000 for the incident, stating the team violated a rule requiring institutions to “limit access to competition areas to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly credentialed or authorized individuals at all times.”

Pieces of the goal post are now up for auction and purchase on livesource.com.

The auction began Sunday night and will continue through Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. You can place a bid by making a donation on Live Source.

A 4-inch piece of the post is currently listed with a price tag of $1,005, and an 8-inch piece is going for $4,035.
