(NewsNation) — The Tampa International Airport in Tampa, Florida, will reopen Friday at 8 a.m. EDT after a three-day flight suspension due to Hurricane Milton, the airport announced.

The state is beginning cleanup and recovery efforts after Milton, which made landfall Wednesday evening as a Category 3 storm.

The airport said it is working with the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration and other airlines to aim for a Friday morning reopening.

Flooding damaged a hangar Wednesday.

Until its reopening, the airport remains closed to the public while cleanup and repairs continue.

During initial assessments, the airport reported roadways are clear and parking garages are open and “in good shape.” The FAA reports the air traffic control tower is operational, and the airport rescue and firefighting station did not sustain significant damage.

The airport is still experiencing some challenges ahead of its reopening, however. The fuel depot lost power and is running on a generator. Debris remains strewn across some parts of the 3,300-acre airport campus, and some parts of the main terminal need leak repairs.

No aircraft damage has been reported.

If reopening plans change, the airport will announce them on its website. Passengers should check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
