Julie Chrisley teaching real estate class in prison: Daughter
- Todd Chrisley serving 12 years for bank fraud, tax evasion
- Julie Chrisley was sentenced to seven years
- Daughter: Mom is doing OK, but it's a struggle
(NewsNation) — Jailed reality TV star Julie Chrisley revealed to her daughter that she’s teaching real estate classes inside prison.
“When it comes to my mother, she’s doing OK, but it’s a struggle. Our system is set up for failure,” the couple’s daughter Savannah Chrisley told NewsNation’s Elizabeth Prann on “Banfield.” “Since teaching these classes, there has been a woman that got out that actually did her first real estate flip and made money on it. … She said the only reason she was able to do that was because mom inspired her and taught her.”
Julie and her husband Todd, known for their reality TV series “Chrisley Knows Best,” were convicted in June 2022 on charges of bank fraud, tax evasion and conspiring to defraud the IRS. During their trial, federal prosecutors said Todd and Julie engaged in an extensive bank fraud scheme and then hid their actual wealth from tax authorities while flaunting their lavish lifestyle.
Julie was also convicted of wire fraud and obstruction of justice. Todd was sentenced to 12 years, and Julie was sentenced to seven. She’s serving her time at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, and Todd is serving at a federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida. The pair has been restricted from contacting one another.
Earlier this year, Savannah said Todd is facing retaliation in prison after he spoke exclusively to NewsNation about the unsafe conditions in which he says he’s living.
Todd previously told NewsNation he believes he’s being targeted by prison staff and that he and other inmates are living in filthy conditions.
