(NewsNation) — The Menendez brothers‘ attorney, Mark Geragos, took a jab at the Los Angeles County district attorney Friday, saying he was elected because “the ’90s were calling and they wanted their DA’s office back.”
Geragos accused Nathan Hochman of rehashing outdated prosecutorial platitudes.
“They’re not only replicating the ’90s in their attitude,” Geragos said Friday on “Banfield.” “They’re replicating the ’90s in starting to be that they can’t win the cases.”
In a news conference Friday, Hochman rejected the new evidence provided in the Menendez brothers murder case and said he would take action to limit their potential paths to freedom.
Lyle and Erik Menendez were found guilty of murdering their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez in 1989 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. The brothers have spent nearly 35 years behind bars.
“The court should deny the current habeas petition by the Menendez brothers,” Hochman said.
Geragos argued that prosecutors are reacting unfairly, stating, “So we’ve now trotted out this idea that somehow they’re (the Menendez brothers) liars back then, and so therefore we shouldn’t deal with the new evidence.”
