(NewsNation) — Susan Smith, who drowned her two sons in a lake in 1994, is up for parole. Tommy Pope, lead prosecutor during Smith’s murder trial, says the case is “the worst I’ve ever seen.”
Pope sought the death penalty for Smith at the time of the trial, and says he thinks what stopped it was the community believing Smith would be in prison “for the rest of her life.”
