Gen Z increasingly opting out of workforce: Research
- Mental health issues have been influential
- Gen Z also has a greater indifference to hustle culture
- NEETs has becoming a growing trend
(NewsNation) — Gen Z has perhaps shown a level of individuality not seen in previous generations, and an emerging trend furthers that notion.
More and more younger people are reporting higher levels of mental health issues and are intentionally opting out of the workforce.
This has been termed as NEETs; not in employment, education or training.
According to the International Labor Organization, 21.7% of individuals aged between 15 and 24 were considered NEETs.
Per Resolution Foundation research, 34% of young people aged 18-24 acknowledged symptoms that inferred they were suffering from commonplace mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder.
From 2018-22, those with a mental health disorder were more likely to be without work than those without such symptoms.
