(NewsNation) — Most Americans have negative views of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two of the world’s most prominent and wealthy figures in tech, a new poll shows.
A Pew Research Center poll shows 54% of Americans have an “unfavorable” view of Musk, while 67% have the same view of Zuckerberg. Additionally, 36% expressed a “very unfavorable” opinion of Musk with 26% very unfavorable of Zuckerberg.
Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency and is working with the Trump administration to reduce federal spending, saw a 73% “favorable” rating from Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, with 84% from conservative Republicans. Just 12% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents expressed a favorable view of Musk.
Majorities in both parties have an unfavorable view of Zuckerberg, though Democrats are more likely than Republicans to view him negatively, with 76% of Democrats and 87% of liberal Democrats expressing an unfavorable view.
Age was also a factor, with younger adults having a somewhat more negative view of both, according to the survey, which was conducted from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.
According to the poll, 67% of adults under 30 hold an unfavorable view of Musk, compared with 53% of those aged 30 to 49, and 49% of those 50 and older. Zuckerberg saw an unfavorable rating from 70% of adults under 30, compared with 72% of those aged 30 to 49, and 62% of those 50 and older.
Musk elevated himself to the world’s richest man with a net worth of just over $400 billion, according to Forbes, after successful business forays with Tesla, SpaceX and other endeavors built around his love of technology.
Zuckerberg is the co-founder and CEO of Facebook parent company Meta. He is currently ranked as the fourth wealthiest person in the world by Forbes, with an estimated net worth of $179.5 billion.
