(NewsNation) — Imagine a laptop computer that looks like it’s only half a laptop – the keyboard and trackpad half. Instead of a screen, there is a pair glasses hardwired to the unit. And from those glasses comes a 100-inch virtual screen.
The glasses are AR, or augmented reality, which displays a combination of the virtual screen and the real world behind and around it. The Spacetop G1, made by the Israeli company Sightful, is priced at $1,900.
Despite the new “view,” it’s still a standard computer screen, just a lot larger. That means you can build as many or as few windows as you desire.
If your home or office has grown to two, three or even four monitors, this may be for you – especially if you’ve grown so used to all that real estate it’s nearly impossible to get work done in a coffee shop or on an airplane using just a single laptop screen.
“Once you get used to adjusting the glasses on your face and tucking the cable behind your ear, the Spacetop feels remarkably freeing to use,” wrote Alex Wawro for the tech website Tom’s Guide.
“You can write emails, browse the web and watch YouTube videos all at the same time, with each app running in a configurable window that you can drag and drop into place around you,” he added.
Another expert who tested the Spacetop says its performance is good, but not great, thanks to a processor that’s usually found in mobile devices, along with 16GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
“The specs are fine, more or less, especially when considering the product’s focus on work and not play,” wrote Lawrence Bonk on the website “engadget.”
